It is falling
as sure as the lead
in wine jugs led to the fall
of the Romans
just as justices jabbered
contestants chattered
and presidents stuttered
their honors for unknown soldiers.
It is falling
as sure as the leaders
intended to battle, unheeding
the needs of the people
the clatter of egos unraveled
the punch cards recounted
redoubled, and led to the
slaughter.
It is falling
as sure as the led
cannot follow their leaders.
