| Morning After the U.S. Invasion of Iraq |
| Sholeh Wolpé |
It is as it has always been in Redlands.
At GFE on the corner of Cajon and Vine
people suck coffee from paper cups,
munch on muffins from Martha Green's Bakery.
The chatter is as always, quiet.
The smiles as always, broad.
But today the sun is concealed and the breeze
brings no news of the orange grove
down the road in Prospect Park.
Perhaps last night trees shed blossoms like sap
— trees grieve like that.
