| Soldier Downed By Senseless Act of Violence |
| Danielle Grilli |
I maimed an ant this morning
Seared his legs with a flick of ash
Watched as he struggled to move
As the others circled in frenzy
To help: A gentle breath
Creatures flew in all directions
I lost sight of the wounded
Is this the helplessness of a god?
Does hope carry any weight at all?
I snuffed my Marlboro
Turned toward the house
